The majority of businesses in Australia will end the year with a Christmas party of sorts. And lots of people will be looking forward to their yearly Christmas party with memories like, “Hey remember when John got smashed at last years Christmas party and fell over on the dance floor”. Hilarious of course, but not if you’re John! So if you’re reading this John (and we’re guessing you know who you are even if you’re not called John) just remember it’s a work Christmas party and not schoolies week!
And that’s just the Christmas party! What about some of the worst Christmas gifts people give each other year after year without learning a thing?! Like the time the CEO gave his personal assistant a $250 gift voucher to Victorias Secret! And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the whole office found out and they’ve never lived it down. This is because lingerie is the wrong type of Christmas gift for work colleagues and totally inappropriate! Why? Because it’s too personal and goes beyond corporate boundaries.

And what about the time Joe gave every one of his team members a hot air balloon gift voucher for Christmas and one of the balloons was forced to land. I mean, who would have predicted the weather could change in Melbourne? Hilarious we know, but what if someone got hurt – and it’s only your career we’re talking about here.
And lets not forget about the funny type gifts; like the time Pasul gave his boss a Management for Dummies book! Now that’s funny! Or is it wondered Paul’s boss after his wife cracked a not so nice joke about it when he was late picking up the kids. Lesson learnt; humour is risky and corporate Christmas gifts aren’t the place to take risks.
Then there’s perfume. Like the time Ross gave Jenny a bottle of perfume and when she took it home her husband immediately got on the phone in a total rage and abused her boss for making moves on his wife! Outrageous and funny at the same time we thought, or was something really going on? Again, this is another gift that goes in to the too risque department if you know what I mean.
So if you’re planning on giving someone a corporate gift for Christmas, be it your boss, co worker or client, the morale of the story is don’t take risks!
